Rain

Rain
I remember rain
It was misty
My face wet
A mixture of rain and tears
My lips wet
From the rain and your kisses
I remember “I need you”s and “I want you”s and “I miss you”s
Uttered aloud
Sometimes as a whisper
And other times as a scream
And often as a cry
And I remember
Unspoken ‘I love you’s
But I live and love out loud
So your silent ‘I love you’s don’t count
This is not a poem
This is just me remembering
The rain
And your mouth
The hurtful things it said
And the words it used to make me feel like the most desirable woman alive
This is not a poem
This is just me remembering
The rain
You held the strings to my heart
You could mend or unravel it
Instead you set the needle down
And let it dangle as we made love
This is not a poem
This is just me
Remembering
Who I was when I loved in silence
My heart was screaming
The screams were so loud
There is still a faint ringing in my ears
Reminding me of when
I would write poems
About the rain
